“And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.” — Mark 4:26 - 27 NKJV

After God destroyed the earth’s inhabitants in Genesis, He released a Word that has never failed. That word is in Genesis 8:22; it is about sowing and reaping.

While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.

Genesis 8:22 NKJV

Seedtime and harvest will never pass away. But sometimes, some people want to neglect this reality. People don’t want to sow but covet the harvest. They don’t want to work but want to eat the fruit of another man’s labour. That’s not right.

Jesus describes the kingdom of God in parables. In the parable of the growing seed, He explained that God’s kingdom is like a man who sows seed (not seeds — which refers to the Word of God), sleep by night and rises by day only to see that that seed has sprouted and grown.

This illustration is an exact picture of what Jesus was practising when He was on the earth and wants us to learn. He kept preaching the gospel in every city and village (Luke 8:1). In other words, He continued sowing the seed of God’s Word everywhere He went.

We don’t know how many cities and villages Jesus visited. But there are probably various places He and His disciples never went twice. Meanwhile, He trusted God to bring the increase, that is, God’s Word forming in the people who believed, and it worked.

Servant of God, you don’t handle the increase. God does (1 Corinthians 3:6). Do your part. Preach the message of Christ to all manner of people. Continue sowing God’s Word because you’ll never know how God can use that small Word to sustain a soul for years. Don’t doubt God. He’ll perform His duty by bringing an increase to your labour.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Dear God, help me to continue sowing the seed of Your Word to all manner of people without any minutest discrimination. Bestow upon me the grace to stay faithful in fulfilling your Great Commission in the name of Jesus. Amen.
