Beware of False Pressure

[5] “For even His brothers did not believe in Him.” — John 7:5 NKJV

While I was at the university, there was a day our class representative sent an announcement to the class group that one of our lecturers was taking immediate attendance. Meanwhile, the lecturer hadn’t said anything of that sort.

I was already in class then, but many students were absent. So in a couple of minutes, several of those absentees trooped in while lectures were ongoing. And the professor was surprised because he didn’t know why people were coming in late too frequently. He was unaware that the class rep had raised a false alarm in our class group without the lecturer’s notice. And at the end of the lecture, there was no attendance taken. Some students got angry at the class rep because they didn’t want to come. But they were unaware of false pressure.

That is how life is sometimes. What you think it’s so urgent to attend to may not be real. Jesus’ brothers tried it on Him. The Festival of Tabernacles was going on, and they wanted Him to go to Galilee publicly to receive the applause of the Israelites as a minister. But Jesus refused, not because He couldn’t do it, but because these people didn’t believe in Him. They wanted Him to fulfil their carnal desire without any interest in His vision of seeing the lost come to God’s light.

Some people in our lives are like that. They are the first to encourage you when God tells you to do something. But they don’t believe in what God has said about that thing, so when things get tough, they abandon you.

If you keep living your life by what people demand of you, you might miss God’s plan for your life. Life isn’t about fulfilling people’s demands; it’s about fulfilling your divine purpose for which God created you. Beware of false pressure coming your way as a distraction to God’s peace in you, and be bold to say “No” to people who attempt to mislead God’s plan for your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for always being available to direct me. When things get tough, please remind me to find strength in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
