Be Ready to Defend the Gospel

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” — 1 Peter 3:15 NKJV

As a Christian, have you worked or gone somewhere and seen people speak negatively about God? If yes, how did you feel? Bad, right? Did you do something about it? If yes, then you defended the gospel. But if not, you’d have to step up.

When Peter was writing his epistle to the believers, they were facing severe persecution because they believed in Christ. Some were openly tortured and sent to be beaten. Nevertheless, they stood for the gospel of Jesus Christ. And to encourage them more, he said that they should sanctify the Lord in their hearts. In other words, they should keep the purity of Jesus in them as they have, not giving in to worldliness. And more, they must be ready to answer anyone who questions them for their strong hope in Christ. This scripture is much alive today.

There are several people who think life has nothing to do with God. They believe in their hustles more than eternity. But I want to encourage you, dear friend, that it’s worth it to stand for Jesus even if everyone around you doesn’t side with you. Be ready to defend the gospel with meekness and fear, which is reverence toward God.

The Bible says the servant of God must not strive (see 2 Timothy 2:24). In other words, a Christian shouldn’t involve himself in quarrels merely to prove a point. Present Jesus with meekness when called upon to defend Christ. And don’t be afraid of whatever persecutions you may face. The Lord God will keep you from all harm. Trust in Him.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me always to be ready to defend the gospel whenever I get the opportunity. Guide me to live a life that witnesses Christ wherever I find myself. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
