Be Prompt in Obeying God’s Instructions

[13] When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” [14] So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, [15] where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.” — Matthew 2:13-15 NIV

Joseph, although he didn’t play much role in Jesus’ life after He grew, was a highly spiritual man. He loved God and married correctly despite controversies in Mary’s life. Even more importantly, he was prompt in obeying God’s instructions, regardless of his life’s circumstances.

When an angel of the Lord told him to get up and move his small nuclear family to Egypt, he didn’t wait for another day. He obeyed God immediately. That saved little Jesus from being murdered. Can God boast of you obeying Him sharply?

Today, some ministry associates go as far as fighting with their senior pastors when God leads them (the senior pastors) to another phase of ministry. Some wives rebel against their godly husbands during some decision-making processes. But all these things are not right.

There’s a principle in Christ called “following.” When you follow Christ, you’re not supposed to concern yourself with where He’s taking you. You’re simply supposed to follow Him because He’s your ultimate leader, and His plan for your life is beyond your imagination.

In marriage, the leader of the family is the husband. Many times, God will give instructions to the husband concerning the direction of the family vision than the wife. Check the scriptures. God spoke to Joseph about Jesus, especially during his infancy, far more times than Mary. Why? Because God knows it is easier for godly husbands to direct the family when they step up.

Usually, vision bearers are people who see things from a different perspective. While others around them complain about some decisions, they tend to see the future impact of what they’re doing today. The angel didn’t just tell Joseph to move his family to Egypt. He gave him a reason that Herod would search for the child to kill him.

Ministry associates, follow God’s leading through your head. Wives, follow your godly husbands when God tells them to do something in your various families. Don’t make things hard for your leader. Because of a truth, it’s never easy to be the head of every family, ministry or corporation.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your love, leadership and support. Thank You for gracing Joseph’s life to obey You when You needed Him to save little Jesus’ life. Today, I pray for godly husbands for godly females in the brethren. Give them family visions and a prompt obedient spirit that will transform our families and societies at large. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
