Be Of Good Cheer

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 NKJV

One thing that takes away the cheerfulness of a person’s countenance is the troubles of life. Jesus never promised us a problem-free life, whether we follow Him or reject Him. But He did say that He’ll always be with us to the end of the world (Matthew 28:20).

Before Jesus would even die, He told the twelve disciples about the coming of the Holy Spirit and how they’ll suffer so many persecutions for His name’s sake. He made them aware of the nature of troubles ahead, not to put fear in them but to assure them of His peace. He told them to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. Now, let’s look into this.

Suppose you have a parent who knows God and has life experience with enough resources to take care of you no matter what. Will you, as a child, ever worry about not finding remedies and counsel for your life troubles? No, right?

In the same way, this Jesus, by Him all things were created (Colossians 1:16), is saying, “Hey friends, I know everything about your life: past, present, and future. I know how worldly pressures will try to steal My peace I’m giving to you (John 14:27). Do not be troubled when you face tribulation. Instead, be of good cheer because I’ve overcome the world.” That is encouraging, right? But anyone who follows Jesus without trusting this Word from Him may not even recognize to turn to Him in times of trouble.

What trouble has been used by the devil to give you anxiety and mind games? Could you reaffirm the promise of Jesus having overcome the world in your spirit? Don’t complain to God about issues. Pray to Him about them. God will always help you. His anointing in you (the Holy Spirit — 1 John 2:27) will teach you everything you need to walk in triumph. Depend on Him.

You’re a blessing.
