Be Hospitable to One Another Without Grumbling

[9] “Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.” – 1 Peter 4:9 (NKJV)

Hospitality is a cherished virtue in this world. Some people have formed businesses out of this virtue and made millions by establishing guest houses and hotels. But I’ve seen that people don’t talk badly about the attitude of those they host in their homes or places until they leave. In other words, many people cherish hospitality but grumble after doing it. Today, because of this practice, some facility owners have made decisions not to give their place to a certain sect of people because they’ve noticed that such people don’t keep the place tidy after using the venue. They’ll only do it for business reasons to get money, but for attitude, it’s a no-no.

Today’s devotional anchor scripture says we should be hospitable to one another without grumbling. But the “one another” used there doesn’t refer to just anybody in this world. The Apostle was speaking to believers. So, for us believers, we should be ready to offer hospitality to our fellow brethren without complaining before others or when they’re gone. Just because a person is born again doesn’t mean their attitudes have changed overnight. No! God still works in them to will and do His good pleasure (see Philippians 2:13). That means whether that Christian you hosted into your home behaves well or not, you ought to accommodate the person and live with him in wisdom.

Never force your way of life on others, or else you’ll keep having problems with them. Not everybody values punctuality, neatness or a calm way of talking or preaching. So if you’re one of such, keep your values and live with others well, teaching them the right thing to do with great patience. Above all, allow people to flow in their own unique way that expresses their calling. The Lord be with you!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to be hospitable to people without grumbling. Show me what I need to learn whenever new people come around my life so that I’ll not miss out on what You’re doing in any season. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
