Getting People’s Attention to Listen to God’s Word

“A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.” - John 4:7, 9 NKJV

We live in a busy world where there are happenings every single second each day. As a result, many people hardly give full attention to listening to something that’ll bless their lives. That is why God, through the Holy Spirit, creates opportunities for people to hear His Word, especially those who are so busy that they don’t have time for church. Some people got saved not because they were too busy but because the Word they heard arrested their attention.

The Samaritan woman is an example of this explanation. She had lived a bad life, but she had no time to listen to Jesus. All she knew was that she was coming to fetch water. Now Jesus was a Jew. And at that time, Jews were enemies of the Samaritans. Jesus knew He had to save the woman, but He didn’t start the conversation by going straight to preach. He asked a question that got the woman’s attention. Then after that, Jesus dictated how the conversation ascended to the point that she became convinced that Jesus is the Messiah.

Evangelism will be much more
effective when the strategies used to present the gospel are Spirit-led and attention-grabbing.

People won’t just listen to you when you approach them to preach the gospel, especially when they’re busy. You have to be creative in doing something that will get their attention. God can help you do that, but you have to ask Him how to do it. I believe evangelism will be much more effective when the strategies used to present the gospel are Spirit-led and attention-grabbing. Today, many people have heard of Jesus but still don’t know what Truth is. Remember this, how you present the gospel to the lost matters as much as the Word you preach to them. Don’t fail at both. God will guide you.

You’re a blessing.
