Ask God To Fulfil Your Heart Desires

[1] “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? [2] You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.” — James 4:1 - 2 NIV

Every human has heart desires. For some people, their heart desires are evil. But many others, especially God’s children, have good heart desires. I suppose you have at least one.

Aside from having a heart desire, there’s a scrutiny you must run to see if that desire is worth pursuing or not. Some desires are good but not needful for your current life’s season.

For example, an unmarried woman desiring a child has a good heart desire but is not needful for such a season because she’s a spinster, not yet a wife. Suppose she doesn’t control this desire, she can end up getting pregnant out of wedlock, and this can cause so many problems in her life.

According to James 4:1, fights and quarrels can occur even amongst Christians because of desires. Two Christian women can have a grudge when each discovers that both are after the man they both love. It might look funny, but it’s happening.

However, in verse 2, James penned the solution to all these things. He says we should ask God to fulfil our heart desires, not men. In that way, God, who’s omniscient, will be able to grant each person’s heart desires without creating any conflict amongst ourselves.

God knows everyone. He knows how to meet your needs without your struggle. Why don’t you lean on Him to give you the wisdom to handle your situation rather than expecting just any man to help you get what you want? He can show you who to approach to meet your need. But you don’t have to quarrel with anyone.

Remember that life in Christ isn’t a competition; it’s a race of faith with each person’s life’s seasons defined and track marked out by God Himself. Don’t worry about your life; God will see you through every situation. Shalom to your heart.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace and peace. I direct all my heart desires unto You in prayer for You to fulfil them as I delight in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
