A Way To Prevent Quarrels

[23] “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.” — 2 Timothy 2:23 NIV

Quarrels amongst people, even close friends, are nowadays easy to see because of the emergence of arguments. One person feels what he’s saying is correct, and the other fellow also thinks he’s right. Then a fight comes up as each person raises the voice over the other just to prove a point.

For us, the children of God, and especially as ministers of the gospel, Paul shows us a way to prevent quarrels as we live in this evil world. That is, to have nothing to do with foolish and stupid arguments. Why? Because they aren’t profitable to engage ourselves in.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV), the Bible says,

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

The main reason why people engage in arguments is to prove something. So if God is telling us to prove all things, it doesn’t mean we should do it through arguments. Instead, we should do it through the defence of the gospel.

Quarrelling doesn’t glorify God because it shows you lack self-control, which is a fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:2-23). Therefore, be mindful of those you move around with in your life. The Lord is your guide.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the grace to uphold Your Word and defend the Word of truth. Help me do it constructively, avoiding all forms of foolish and useless arguments. So that Christ will be preached in the simplicity of the gospel. Amen!
