A Turn Away From Worthless Things

“Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” — Psalms 119:37 NIV

Worthless things, as well as good things, are merged into our world today and have even gotten worse due to the presence of the internet. Today, it’s much easier for any child with a phone to get access to porn and also become addicted to video games, all because of technology.

Technology is neither good nor evil. However, how we use it lies in our hands. If we use it to connect deeper to God through access to helpful Christian resources online, we will experience transformation in our lives. But if we use it to watch harmful content, it turns to be destructive to our lives.

Technology is neither good nor evil. However, how we use it lies in our hands.

In David’s lifetime, there was no internet, social media, mobile phones, laptops or even keypad phones. But bad attitudes such as marital unfaithfulness, which technology has worsened today, were present. As He prayed to God, he pleaded that the Lord should turn his eyes away from worthless things. In other words, he didn’t want to see anything that would hurt his eyes, much more to think about harming his good conscience. What about you?

Have you familiarised yourself with watching unnecessary things from the web and your physical environment that you’re refusing to pray for change? It’s time to repent!

Our lives as children of God should stem from a pure heart, such that the onlooking unbeliever will have zero error with us. Now that is possible because Jesus said we could be perfect as the Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48). Delight in God’s Word, and devote yourself to prayer. May the Lord guide you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you’ll turn my eyes away from worthless things, both in my physical environment and the internet, so that my conscience will always remain pure in You. Amen!
