Why Spiritual Growth Is Important To The Child of God

As Christians, our relationship with God is the most important relationship we have. Spiritual growth is a crucial aspect of this relationship because it allows us to deepen our understanding of God’s love and to live a life that is pleasing to Him. In this article, we will explore why spiritual growth is important to the child of God and how it can help us live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

1. To enjoy your freedom in Christ

One of the main benefits of spiritual growth for Christians is the freedom we can experience in Christ. In Galatians 4:1, the Apostle Paul writes,

“I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything.”

This passage highlights the idea that when new to the faith in Christ, we are like slaves, bound by the law and unable to experience the fullness of God’s love and grace.

However, through spiritual growth, we can learn to embrace the freedom we have in Christ. That means the law will no longer bind us in our minds. Instead, we will become empowered to live freely in grace without stress. We can enjoy the benefits of being children of God, including forgiveness of sins, access to God’s power and wisdom, and the assurance of our salvation.

As we grow spiritually, we learn to trust in God more and rely on His strength and guidance to help us navigate every life challenge. That allows us to experience a greater sense of peace and contentment, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. We also learn to live in obedience to God’s commands, not out of fear or obligation, but out of deep love and gratitude for all that He has done for us.

2. To fulfil your divine mandate

As Christians, we believe that God has given us a divine mandate to fulfil. In Romans 8:19, the Apostle Paul writes,

“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.”

This passage highlights the idea that, as children of God, we have a responsibility to fulfil our divine mandate and to bring glory to God through our lives. Why? Because the world awaits our manifestation.

One of the main ways we can fulfil our divine mandate is through spiritual growth. As we grow spiritually, we become more aware of God’s plan for our lives and the ways in which He has equipped us to serve Him. We learn to discern His will and to follow His leading, even when it may be challenging or uncomfortable.

3. To teach others the ways of God

Hebrews 5:12-14 NKJV says,

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

This passage highlights the importance of spiritual growth for Christians who want to teach others the ways of God. The author is writing to the Hebrew Christians and expressing his disappointment that they have not progressed as far as they should have in their spiritual journey. He compares their spiritual growth to that of a child who still needs milk instead of solid food.

This verse actually reminds us that growing spiritually is very important for those who want to teach others the ways of God, in fact, Christians specifically. We must put in conscious effort in our Christian journey to develop our knowledge and stature in Jesus Christ; so we can stand bold and confident anytime we share the gospel with others.
