How Not To Be Anxious About Anything

Anxiety is an emotion characterised by feelings of worry, fear, or uneasy response to a perceived threat or danger. It can lead to physical, psychological, and social symptoms such as elevated heart rate, muscle tension, racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, restlessness, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. Anxiety can be both a short-term response to a specific situation, as well as a longer-term disorder with intense and debilitating symptoms (sometimes called depression). In either case, anxiety can cause significant challenges in day-to-day life.

As seen above, anxiety is always a response to a perceived stimulus. It is a reaction to the action of an incoming force or threat. Sadly, this is the state of many people in our world today. They are having nightmares dealing with the pressure and hectic struggles of this current world. Many people cannot deal with family, finances, relationships and all other issues as they continue to search for solutions and help from different sources.

Philippians 4:6-7 says,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I believe the above verse carries the solution to all anxiety, especially for Christians. Let’s break it down. And I’m sure that by the time you finish reading, you’ll learn how not to be anxious about anything in life.

Pray About Everything

From the Bible verse above, prayer is a tool for dealing with anxiety. Prayer is an important way of connecting with God. It is a way for us to communicate our needs, give ourselves to God’s will, and ask for His help and guidance.

No matter the situation, prayer can help to provide you comfort because it makes you become more conscious of God’s presence in your life. Are you afflicted? The Bible urges you to pray (see James 5:13). Are you anxious about something? Take it to God in prayer. Don’t ask Him for anything. Just enjoy His fellowship.

Supplicate about all things

A supplication is a form of prayer directed to a higher power that involves asking for help or guidance in the form of a petition. It is often carried out humbly as a sense of submission to the higher power in the hope that one’s request or needs will get answered. The benefits of supplication to believers are that it helps to foster humility, discipline and faith and can provide strength and support during difficult times.

In times when you feel the pressures of this world are weighing you down, carry the situation over to God. Take that anxiety to the Lord. Sometimes things weigh us down because we refuse to throw them to Jesus. Supplicate, friend. God will hear you.

Thank God while you pray

Always remembering to be thankful when you pray is a great way to acknowledge all that God has done for you. When you give thanks for the blessings in your lives, not only do you affirm your faith and deepen your relationship with God, but you also recognise the abundance of provision and joy in our lives.

Philippians 4:7 NIV says,

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This verse reminds you that prayer, as a form of faithful supplication, is a significant part of finding peace amidst life’s struggles.

Learn to manage your own expectations and reactions to challenging situations. Pray, supplicate and thank God in all things. It is well with you.
