Five Spiritual Laws of Progress

In life, everyone strives to be progressive, especially in terms of family, finances and education. God isn’t against it. In fact, He’s for it, but for our progress to glorify Him.

As God’s child, you must always desire to progress in everything you do at every place you are. Nevertheless, there are spiritual laws in the Bible that you ought to know and practice if you want to experience this progress in life.

In this article, I cover five of them. Let’s delve into each one.

1. Always be conscious of God’s presence

God is everywhere, but He doesn’t manifest His presence in every place. If you are born again, you are in God’s presence. But it’s one thing to be in God’s presence and yet another to remain conscious of His presence.

Joseph was a man the Bible says he prospered in Egypt, even as a slave. When he was sold by His brothers and taken down to Egypt, he didn’t meditate on his pain. He was conscious of the Lord’s presence everywhere he went.

Joseph always knew that God was with him no matter the circumstance, and that was enough to make him progressive, even in a foreign land.

The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.‬‬

Genesis‬ ‭39:2-3‬ ‭NKJV (Boldface mine)

If your behaviour is good before God, then you don’t need to compromise to please your master. Just be conscious of God’s presence. If you live in this way, your boss will recognize God’s favour upon your life. And God will create opportunities to make you progressive.

It’s one thing to be in God’s presence and yet another to remain conscious of His presence.

2. Study Christian materials

Gifts are freely given or imparted in Christ. Yet, it takes much effort to develop them to their full potential. Invest in buying books and reading spiritual materials filled with the Truth. Consistent study of the Bible and other Christian materials, helps you increase in divine wisdom; and where there is knowledge increment, there’ll be progress in how work is done.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

3. Focus on fulfilling your divine purpose

God has a purpose for everybody on this earth. Some know theirs, others don’t. If you don’t know yours, pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you. But if you know yours, you have to be focused on fulfilling it step by step as God leads you. That is costly because your focus will affect the kind of decisions you make.

Many times, people who don’t progress in fulfilling their divine purpose usually have issues focusing on completing each task related to the vision.

We live in a busy world. So if you don’t define your focus, you’ll be distracted. Not all duties are significant for you to fulfil. Lay aside weights of pleasing people, doing what everybody wants from you, committing secret sins and taking on unnecessary life burdens. Focus! People may hate you for following God, but keep pressing on. Live as a visionary child of God.

4. Work with all your heart

The Scriptures say in Ecclesiastics 9:10 (NKJV) that,

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

Nobody starts making it big in life at a goal. There’s always a training process to go through. In the realm of God, it’s called the school of the Spirit.

Nehemiah, in the Bible, knew God gave him the vision to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. But he was a cupbearer of the king when he had that vision. Because of his faithfulness in his work, the king supported him to deliver his divine mandate well. You may not have everything it takes to fulfil your calling. Just work with all your heart at your current workplace, as doing it unto the Lord. He’ll find a way of making you progress from where you are to where He has called you to be.

You can’t progress in handling something huge if you aren’t faithful in handling small portions of the
same thing.

5. Be faithful to handle what you’re entrusted with

You can’t progress in handling something huge if you aren’t faithful in handling small portions of the same thing. It’s a spiritual law of progress in Christ. When God gives you something small to handle, it is a test of faithfulness. Do not despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). People may not recognize you during your training season. But purpose in your heart to live unto God. Don’t seek recognition. Be faithful in handling what’s in your hands.

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Luke‬ ‭16:10 NKJV‬‬

It’s essential to desire to progress in all endeavours of life. However, I hope these five spiritual laws enlighten your journey of progress as a child of God. God bless the work of your hands.
